This is a wonderful radio and capable of so much.
We have successfully expanded this family of radios using
the procedures described below.
There is a receive only modification by keypad.
(Software).
Keypad Mod:
Turn your radio off,
hold... SP and up scan arrow... down,
while turning on the radio,
don't release for 5 seconds.
There are also these modifications which are permanent.
(Hardware).
Do not attempt this modification unless you are
familiar with surface mount technology.
Modification as follows:
Remove the battery.
Remove the antenna.
Remove the protective rubber boot from the accessory (Spk/Mic.) jack.
Remove the antenna nut with a thin nose pair of needle nose pliers.
Remove the two bottom black screws at the bottom rear of the radio.
Remove the main board assembly from the front cover assembly.
Disconnect the speaker wire from the main board assembly.
Remove the screw at the positive terminal on the rear.
Remove the screw at the BNC Terminal.
Remove the solder at the RF connection of the BNC.
Remove the eight screws holding the main board to the metal housing.
Carefully lift the main board, lifting gently first at the bottom.
To expand the receive frequency range:
Remove the D34 diode on the main board.
To expand the transmit frequency range:
Remove the D18 diode on the main board.
These diodes are in the center of the main board
near a large ground area. On the rear side of the board
(Without the LCD). Approximately 1" up,
third and fourth surface mount devices
from the bottom center.
After modification the radio performs spectacularly
from about 130 MHz to 180 MHz. The unit retains
full sensitivity and power through the entire range.
Display will read from 100 MHz to 200 MHz but only
performs in the range listed above.
There are no guarantees of coverage outside the ham bands.
This modification is for experimental purposes only.

from KB7ISR didn't seem to apply to my recently purchased T2H, as the surface-mount component arrangement seems to be different. I supplied Icom with my Navy MARS credentials, per their web site FAQ, and received a fax back containing a mod that does work, on my radio.
Here is the mod, slightly changed from the existing one, to illustrate the new layout:

Don't know if anyone else has e-mailed you about this but... An easier
way to get to the D34 & D18 diodes, is to remove the battery case use a
knife or other sharp tool to pry the bottom of the black plastic away
from the metal casing (it's held only by glue, I would recommend only
pealing the plastic about half way up), then remove the foil material
from the casing underneith that and remove the small piece of paper..
